Idling through the interwebthingy I was delighted to discover that Joan Aiken's horrible (in the best possible way) 'Marmalade Wine' was televised on Rod Serling's 'Night Gallery' in 1971. It has a similar feel to Evelyn Waugh's 'The Man who liked Dickens' in Fontana 9 but with added surgery and associated unpleasantnesses.
